Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour

This memorable tour offers an in-depth visit to the former Nazi concentration camp located on the outskirts of Oswiecim in south Poland. It possibly became the site of the greatest mass murder in the history of humanity.        Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest concentration and extermination camp established by the Nazis during the Second World War. Created formally in 1940 as a concentration camp for Polish political prisoners, it became in fact the centre for the extermination of European Jews. Between 1.1 and 1.4 million people met their deaths at Auschwitz-Birkenau. A local guide will recount the camp's history of terror, hope and human sacrifice. The watchtowers, barbed-wire fences, loading ramps, execution walls, gas chambers and crematoria of the Nazi machinery of genocide are still standing. This site is a key place of our collective memory of the darkest period in the history of humanity. Auschwitz - Birkenau was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1979. During the tour you visit both parts of Auschwitz State Museum located in Oswiecim (KL Auschwitz I) and Brzezinka (KL Auschwitz II Birkenau). Pearls of Lower Silesia

Travel through Lower Silesia to discover a wealth of historical monuments and picturesque countryside. This tour features some of the most important attractions of the area reflecting its fascinating heritage of many cultures, nations and political states over centuries. In the first part our tour passes through Wroclaw’s suburbs, now an extensive well-developed area with numerous shopping and manufacturing facilities. A short distance into the country brings you close Mt Sleza (718 m) which is Lower Silesia’s symbolic mountain of great historical and cultural significance as the site of settlement of Germanic and Slavic peoples thousands of years ago.   Upon arrival in Świdnica you visit the evangelical Church of Peace (World Heritage Site), a unique spectacular wooden structure that bears testimony to the quest for religious freedom in Silesia in the 17th century. Take some time to explore Świdnica's historical Old Town boasting the picturesque market square and the impressive 14th-century catholic Cathedral of St. Stanislaus and Wenceslaus, patron saints of Poland and Czech Republic respectively. An extra stop can be arranged at the house once belonging to Manfred von Richthofen, also known as the Red Baron. He was a flying ace and legend of Germany’s air force during World War One and spent his childhood in Swidnica. As the tour continues towards the Walbrzych hills, we soon make a stop at the imposing Ksiaz Castle spectacularly situated on a hilltop in the middle of a picturesque park.  During a detailed tour of the castle you will view its impressive architecture and learn about the fascinating history featuring medieval dukes, political intrigues, romance and secrets. Before World War II Ksiaz Castle was in possession of the Hochbergs regarded as one of the wealthiest and influential German aristocratic families. Between 1941 and 1945 though it was confiscated by the Nazi regime and reconstructed to accommodate Hitler and some of the party elite. Secrets of World War II

Join our fascinating tour exploring Lower Silesia's most important sites of World War II. This area until 1945 played a crucial role for Nazi secret military plans and Germany's economy to maintain hopes for the ultimate triumph over the Allies and Soviets. After departure from Wroclaw the tour heads south towards the Sudeten Mountains. In a lovely situated village of Krzyzowa we will visit a former estate of Helmut James von Moltke, founder of the Kreisau Circle which was a group of German dissidents who opposed Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. All members of the Kreisau Circle believed that they needed to plan for Germany’s future and this oriented around the removal of Hitler from power and the destruction of the Nazi Party. After WWII and collapse of the Iron Curtain in Europe Krzyzowa became a symbolic place of reconciliation between the Poles and the Germans. A fascinating and very informative exhibition presents details and facts of how the two nations that shared difficult history have travelled a long and uneasy journey to establish a friendly emotional relationship. After a short ride the tour stops in Walim, a small town nestled at the foot of the Sowie Mountains. Our destination is the Project Riese, a secret Nazi military facility built between 1943 and 1945 that consisted of large tunnels and subterranean halls at several locations in the mountains. During World War Two Lower Silesia, then a territory of Nazi Germany, was dubbed "the shelter of the Third Reich" as it was out of range of Allied bombers. Therefore it was a perfect location to carry out secret plans of great strategic importance for German warfare. Was the Project Riese a secret headquarters of the Third Reich's High Command or maybe an armaments production facility? (see this website for more information about the Project Riese). Half an hour from Walim is the famous Ksiaz Castle that also had been linked with many WW II secrets. The whole world was recently informed about the discovery of a Nazi gold train that apparently was hidden nearby. Although nothing as yet has been confirmed we will show you around and tell you more details of the captivating history of Ksiaz Castle during WWII. The last stop on the tour is Gross Rosen Memorial and Concentration Camp situated in Rogoznica, 60 km from Wroclaw. During World War II it was the main centre of the Nazi concentration camp system of Lower Silesia. Gross-Rosen was known for its brutal treatment especially in the stone quarry. The largest population of inmates were Jews from Poland, Hungary, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Greece, Yugoslavia, Slovakia, and Italy. During yourvisit to the memorial and museum your guide recounts the tragic and emotional history of the must-see place.  AVAILIBILITY:  Our tours are usually available daily throughout a year except some public holidays. Gross-Rosen Memorial Tour

Join our memorable tour to the Gross-Rosen Memorial situated outside the village of Rogoznica, 60 km away from Wroclaw. Stuck behind the Iron Curtain for 60 years and hard to reach, it is less well known than Dachau or Auschwitz. However, during World War Two the Gross-Rosen concentration camp was a place in which over 40,000 abused prisoners perished.  Gross-Rosen (as it was called in German), was the main center of the Nazi concentration camp system of Lower Silesia during World War Two. It was set up in the summer of 1940 as a satellite camp to Sachsenhausen, and became an independent camp in 1941. Initially, work was carried out in the camp's huge stone quarry. As the complex grew, many inmates were put to work in the construction of the subcamps' facilities. Gross-Rosen was known for its brutal treatment especially in the stone quarry. Due to a change of policy in August 1942, prisoners were likely to survive longer because they were needed as slave workers in German industries.  The largest population of inmates were Jews, initially from the Dachau and Sachsenhausen camps, and later from Buchenwald. During the camp's existence, the Jewish inmate population came mainly from Poland and Hungary; others were from Belgium, France, Netherlands, Greece, Yugoslavia, Slovakia, and Italy. At its peak activity in 1944, the Gross-Rosen complex had up to sixty subcamps located in eastern Germany and occupied Poland. In its final stage, the population of the Gross-Rosen camps accounted for 11% of the total inmates in Nazi concentration camps at that time. The camp was captured on February 14, 1945, by the Red Army. Gross-Rosen’s terrible history continued after 1945 as the Soviet occupiers took it over for a few more years to house their political enemies. During your visit to the memorial and museum your guide brings the experience to life with much detail and emotion. Don't miss an opportunity to reflect on the tragic history of this place.. The Great Escape Tour

Visit the site of the most famous escape of World War II from a German prisoner-of-war camp that went down in history as “The Great Escape”. Stalag Luft III in Sagan (now Żagań in western Poland) was a Luftwaffe run prisoner-of-war camp that held captured Allied airmen. In March 1943 they came up with a plan to prepare and undertake a mass escape of 200 prisoners through a tunnel. In a tiny compound 600 men worked for a year under the strictest secrecy on the tunnels named Tom, Dick, and Harry. They were hundreds of feet long, with underground railways, workshops, air pumping stations and deep enough to avoid German sound detectors. Under the very noses of alert guards the prisoners organized factories for making German uniforms, compasses, maps, documents and even a studio for fake passport photographs. Finally, on the night of 24th of March 1944,  76 prisoners managed to escape from the camp through the Harry tunnel but soon after 73 were recaptured during the chase. Outraged, Hitler ordered to shoot dead fifty of them which was an appalling abrogation of the Geneva Convention. Find out more about those dramatic events at the Museum of Allied POW Camps in Żagań, visit the grounds of Stalag Luft III and the memorial to the brave airmen who paid the highest price for an escape they considered a soldier's duty.
