Jewish Heritage Tour

Wrocław's Jewish community is one of the oldest in Poland dating back to the 12th century. It has preserved a fascinating legacy even though throughout centuries Jews living in Silesia were confronted with persecution.  This tour offers you an insight into the heritage of one of the most influential ethnical and religious communities in Wrocław until World War II.

During the tour we visit the White Stork Synagogue located in the Quarter of Mutual Respect. It now serves as a museum (with a permanent exhibition on the history of Jews in Wrocław), a place of worship and cultural centre.  Before World War II Breslau (as the city was then known) had the third biggest Jewish community in Germany. As a matter of fact some members were prominent figures in political, academic and scientific circles (including Nobel Prize winners). Our guide also shows you a memorial marking the location of what once used to be a magnificent synagogue, destroyed by the Nazis in the fires of the 1938 Kristallnacht. The final stop during the tour is the mystic Old Jewish Cemetery, perhaps the most well-preserved legacy of the pre-war Jewish community. Indeed the beauty and diversity of styles and symbols on display is perhaps unmatched anywhere.
